Says 124 – Young photography buff

Fujifilm FinePix Z3 Camera2012 Dec 24 A while back, I was taking some pictures with my Canon Powershot SX220 HS at my daughters house and my granddaughter, Nyah, (4 years old) was interested in my camera and wanted to take some pictures. I showed her the basics and while holding the strap, I let her take some shots .I was surprised as she took some pretty good pictures.

A few days later I saw a pink Fujifilm FinePix Z3 Camera for sale on Kijiji for $10.00 and though of getting it for my granddaughter. I emailed the seller and made arrangements to see it. It didn’t have a video card and the woman said it was her daughters, and that she didn’t use it anymore and wasn’t sure if the battery was good. I thought for a moment and as I had a spare video card, I thought for $10.00 I’ll take a chance as everything else was there and it looked in pretty good shape. I especially liked the on-off feature, which was a slide plate that covered the lens when it was off. It also looked pretty sturdy and had a good case. What was an added bonus was that it was pink, Nyah’s favorite colour.

I took it home and inserted my spare video card and nothing. I then took out the battery and lo and behold, it had been put in backwards. I turned it around and turned the camera on and it worked. I checked it out, including the movie feature and charger and everything worked. I put it away as I was going to give it to her before Xmas.

NyahA week before Xmas, I was over at my daughters place and Nyah took me downstairs to play with her. She showed me a toy camera that she had gotten from her baby sitter and said in a very disappointed voice, “It’s just a toy Gramps, it’s not real and good for anything,” as she tossed it in a basket along with some of her other toys. Later, I asked my daughter if she had told her I had a real camera for her and she said she hadn’t.

I wrapped it up and gave it to her the day before Xmas. I showed her how to work it and after a few shots, she was all smiles. It didn’t take her long to begin exploring the telephoto function, as well as viewing her pictures. I was sitting on the couch with my grandson Max, and she came up and began directing me as to what I should do, and where I should look so that she could take her shots. My daughter (her mother) was standing behind her and was silently laughing as she realized she was mimicking her in what she does to get pictures of Nyah. I have to say that the kid is a quick learner and has a good eye.

Says 76 – I now have a room for Sept 01

2012 Aug 02 I’ve been watching Kijiji for a few weeks looking for a new place to live. Today I saw a room listed in the city of Brantford, Ont, that’s about 30 minutes from Woodstock. A little further than I wanted to be from Woodstock, but what the heck. I called the number and made an appointment to see the room at 2:00 pm. Just before that, I got an email regarding a furnished Bachelor apartment in Woodstock and I had arranged to see it at 4:00pm.

I drove to Brantford and with the help of my Garmin, http://www.garmin.com/us/ I found the place okay. I met the woman who showed me the room, which was actually the master bedroom that is at the back of the house. It’s quite large (12 x 15) not counting a huge double closet. The bathroom is next door that I’ll be sharing with the other tenant. She showed me the rest of the house and it was quite comfortable. She was very personable and easy to talk with. I told her about the bachelor apartment that I would be seeing at 4:00 pm and told her I’d let her know after I saw it.

At 3:50 pm, I went to see the third floor bachelor apartment but the woman never showed up so I left at 4:15 pm. She didn’t have to show me the apartment as I recognized the place from a few years earlier when I worked at Mel’s Fish and Chips, a nearby business. The place on the corner, next door to the apartment was a tattoo parlor that also sold drug paraphernalia and Goth merchandise. I remember druggies hanging around at all hours, and today was no different. I parked in the back and walked around to the front entrance. It was filthy, with dirt filled carpet, old peeling paint and graffiti on the walls. While I didn’t see a roach in the entrance, when I walked back to the parking lot at the rear of the building, I could smell one coming from the Tattoo Parlor next door on the corner. This is definitely not the place for me.

I went back to my room and called the woman in Brantford telling her that I’d take the room and asked if she wanted the rent tonight, or tomorrow. She said that tonight was fine and that she would like me to meet her husband before I/she decided, just in case there was any problems. I arrived at 7:15pm and left at 9:15 pm. The three of us had a good chat, (seemed like old times) as we talked about and shared similar views on numerous topics. So now, I have a room for Sept 1. I may be able to move in sooner, depending on when the present tenant moves out to live in Toronto, where he going to be working.

It’s a nice trip from Woodstock to Brantford as Hwy 403 is a double lane divided highway. It’s only 43 km (27 miles) and it took only 35 minutes to drive from downtown Woodstock and pull up in front of my future home. So the time and distance isn’t going to be a big issue when I drive into Woodstock to see my daughter /son-in-law and my grandkids.

I haven’t told my present landlords, as I found out that they had been in my room again when I was out this afternoon. I have now put notes in my drawers, closet and fridge that say… ”Fuck off you snoops!” They will only see them when they come into my room and snoop where they have no business being, and if they get pissed off, I’ll know why. As long as they are assholes and snooping, I’ll keep them in the dark about my finding a new place until I’m good and ready.

Says 59 – Helping ex-wife move and looking for another place

My ex-wife moved to her new apartment on the end of June and I helped her move some stuff and then set up the apartment, like move furniture, hang window blinds and coverings, ceiling fan, bed frame and headboard, put together new dining room table and chairs, organize closets, hang pictures, etc.

After several discussions, the property owner finally put a temperature sensor upstairs that is linked to the main control downstairs. While that is fine and dandy, they also can’t keep their hands off it. The A/C kicks in at various times and temperatures. Sometimes it operates between 24 – 26 degrees, and then other times it’s working from between 27 – 29 degrees C. Then on top of that, they turn it on at different times and it’s always turned off by 8:00 pm leaving the upper level to sweat through the night as the sun is still out and the building is hot and the temperature rises to over 32C. Other days when they think it’s going to be cooler, (27 degrees C) they open the door and windows to let the breeze though but it’s now and humid. Other times, the A/C is on and the windows and doors are open. Their A/C unit is on and the downstairs is cool, but the upstairs is like an oven.

I put an ad on Kijiji, stating that I looking for a furnished, all-inclusive one bedroom or bachelor apartment as I could not see myself staying where I am. I’m also looking for another room, but there isn’t anything new, or if there is, they specifically want a working person, student or a female. What is new is also not acceptable to me, as it’s either smoking, in a basement, or in a rundown dirty house.

Says 44 – MacBook now working

April 28 Saturday ever since my MacBook bit the dust  Says 42 I’ve kept going back to it to see if it would work. I had a couple of email inquiries about the Macbook that I had posted for sale on Kijiji and today a guy wrote me again, asking me what the model number was. In looking for the number, I decided to give it one more try. I had previously removed the RAM, hard drive and battery, so after re-installing them, I flipped the laptop over, open the cover, pressed the power button,  pressed the keys to reset the PRAM, and voilà…. it sprang to life. I turned it off and on and it was still working. I waited for a half an hour and then turned it on again and it still worked. I then ran a system check and there were no problems. I also ran a hard drive check and that was fine too. I don’t know what’s going on, but I’m happy that I have my MacBook back. I wrote the guy back saying that I was no longer selling my Macbook as it was now working.

Says 42 – MacBook issues

A couple of months ago I bought some used laptop computer RAM from a guy on the internet through Kijiji. Last night I installed a 1GB and 2BG RAM module into my MacBook. I pressed the power button and it didn’t turn on. I checked to see that it was installed properly and tried again, it still didn’t work. Thinking that the RAM was faulty, I then reinstalled the old RAM and tried again. It still wouldn’t turn on. I went back and forth a half a dozen times and still nothing. My MacBook was dead. I was angry and at a loss for words as I just screwed my MacBook that was working fine.

I never turned the MacBook on before I installed the RAM to see if it was working, but I had just used it a couple of days ago, and I even charged up the battery so I had no reason to think there was a problem. So now I’ll have to take it to a computer shop to see what happened. Fuck! It was working great with the 2GB RAM it had, so why did I need to force it to 3 GB, just to max out the specs.

11:30 AM, I called a local computer repair shop and talked to a tech that told me that the problem might be that I needed to reset the computer PRAM settings to accommodate the new RAM. He suggested that I install the old RAM and then reset the PRAM and see if that worked, and he told me how to do it. I tried several times, but it didn’t work. Frustrated, I packed it up and took it down to the shop where he had a look at it and said that it looked like my logic board was toasted and that it would cost close to $1,000.00 to fix it, and that it wasn’t worth it. So now my Macbook that was working great, is basically a pile of junk and only good for parts. I took it home and during the next couple of days I tried different things to see if it would boot up, but nothing worked. Finally I decided to post it on Kijiji and sell it for parts.

I’m feeling at a loss, frustrated and angry in that my wanting the computer to be bigger, better and faster, caused me to turn it into a pile of junk. instead of just accepting it as it was, I destroyed it.

Dah! I just realized that’s also what I’ve been doing to my Body. Ever since I was young, I wanted to be bigger, faster and better. I was/am not happy with the way my Body is as I have judgments and expectations on it. I’m comparing myself to others that I think are better than me. Ahhhh! This also goes back to lost hopes dreams and desires and that I never did the things I wanted in my youth, and now that I’m older, my Body isn’t able to do that, and so I feel cheated and robbed. It’s my Mind that wants my Body to be this way or that way, to do this or that. It’s my Mind that is always nudging and pushing my Body to do more, and then when it does more, my Mind wants even more, as it’s never satisfied. Each time the Body digs deeper to do more, it kills itself little by little in the process, and is able to do even less that it did before.

It’s just like I’m thinking of getting another vehicle that’s bigger and better than the Toyota tercel that I’m now driving as I’m not happy with it. Fuck! This is insane. What’s with this insane drive for more, better, faster?
