Says 245 – Finally a exercise/stretch that seems to work

A couple of weeks ago, as I was waking up and feeling my neck and right shoulder achy and sore, I had a realization. Since my car accident back in December of 2014, I’ve been having issues with my neck and right shoulder / arm. Physiotherapy was of no help, in fact it caused more damage. Since then, I’ve searched the internet for exercises and stretches that would help, but none have worked, or if they did, it was only temporary.

What I realized is that they all require you to contract some muscles while trying to stretch others and that doesn’t work as you are working against yourself. Routines like holding a strap tied to a fixed object and then trying to stretch the arm with the same hand and arm doesn’t work as one set of muscles is holding the strap, while the others are stretching. The thing is that they are all muscles are interconnected and go into the shoulder, upper back, and neck that then creates tension and pain and makes matters worse.

What I found was to clasp my hands together, inter locking my fingers, and then grabbing my knees and letting my leg exert pressure to stretch my arm, shoulder and neck. BINGO .!  It works. All the muscles in my arm, shoulder and neck are relaxed and when I begin to push out with my knee, I can feel the stretch in all those parts. I can control the tension with my knee and I can also control the rotation to the sides, using either my right or left knee to do the stretching.

While my arm, shoulder and neck are sorer than before the stretch, I can feel and hear my neck vertebra cracking more than before, while at the same time I feel I have more mobility and can move my head easier with less pain. I feel it’s now stretching the knots and scar tissue that has formed in the muscles and ligaments during the past two years. Yesterday, I saw my chiropractor and told him about my findings, and he noticed an improvement since the last time I saw him before Christmas.

This picture is actually of a guy pulling his leg toward his chest.  It was the only one I could find where he had his fingers interlocked over his knee. So in my case, instead of pulling the knee with my arms, I use my leg to pull my arms, shoulders and neck muscles.

Says 211 – Inflammation – A medical mystery – Why?

211-back-injuryAfter my month off to let my Body heal, I began to notice a difference in my Body, although I still had all the aches and pains. My insurance covered my Chiropractic treatments until 2016 June, but my Massage treatments were denied and cut off in March. I felt I needed massage to continue my healing process, so I paid for them personally until June, when the Chiro treatments ended. I then decided to take the summer off, dealing with my physical issues as best I could.

By the end of August, I realized that I was at a standstill. The five months of physio and 18 months of chiro and massage had not helped me get back to the normal pain free life I had before the accident. Even though I had given my Body a month to heal, that wasn’t enough. In hindsight, I felt that the aggressive Physio and massage treatments, and my own ignorance in believing and doing what the so-called medical professionals were saying had contributed to my injuries, not healed them, as I still had inflammation and pain. I decided that I needed to find what I was missing and to try something new.

It was then that I happened to stumble upon a Chiropractor giving computer based thermal imaging assessments on people that had back and neck issues. I was interested to see and hear what he had to share about my issues and was impressed by how he identified the painful areas in my spine by the amount of inflammation present. While I had been aware a few months ago that I hadn’t given my Body time to heal, it never dawned on me at the time that the real issue inflammation. I also wasn’t aware of what inflammation really was. Here is the medical definition of inflammation

211-inflamationIt wasn’t until a couple of weeks ago that I realized that the so-called medical profession simplifies and puts down inflammation as if it’s a side-effect and nuisance, something to get rid of,  yet it’s a KEY factor in the Bodies attempt and ability to heal itself.  While “they” are aware of the presence of inflammation, they haven’t a clue as to what causes the Body to respond and create inflammation, other than it’s related to some other disease or injury that they are also are ignorant to its cause and its natural healing process.

Inflammation: Causes, Symptoms and Treatment

<quote> Inflammation is the body’s attempt at self-protection; the aim being to remove harmful stimuli, including damaged cells, irritants, or pathogens – and begin the healing process.<end quote>

211-inflammatiionAnd there is this medical doublespeak definition of Inflammation.

<quote> Inflammation does not mean infection, even when an infection causes inflammation. Infection is caused by a bacterium, virus or fungus, while inflammation is the body’s response to it. <end quote>

Of course the common medical answer to treating inflammation is… you guessed it… DRUGS.  Pain killers and anti-inflammatory drugs actually suppress the Body’s ability to heal itself and instead, create a false sense of healing which actually makes natural healing to take longer.  Pain killer drugs        Anti-inflammatory drugs

Says 170 – I’m back – kind of, sort of, maybe. :) !

170 - cartoon-man peeps-out-trap-doorI can’t believe that on Dec. 03, it will be a years since my car accident. This summer, not summer, this year, has been a washout, as I’m still going to my Chiropractor and getting massage treatments, while doing my own physiotherapy to expand my range of motion and strength. And while they are helping, it’s been a slow process. I’m still only able to do maybe 25% of what I could do before the accident, and most of it has to do with my whiplash injury that not only affects my neck, but also my back, arms and legs. Moving either my arms or legs in a who knows what manner, will trigger my neck, which then affects the rest of my body. Even walking is limited to a few blocks at most. Besides that, I still have my constant dull headache that doesn’t help the situation. On top of my physical issues, I’m also trying to get my books published in eBook formats and that is turning out to be a nightmare. So while I say, I’m back, that may be short lived, but it is my intent to resume blogging, as I feel it’s time to reconnect.

Says 135 – Seeing my Chiropractor

Chiroparactor2013 Jan 21 I went to see my Chiropractor today about my neck, shoulders and lower back. I’ve been in pain for a month now and it’s not getting any better, in fact, I’m noticing that I’m beginning to stoop and slouch my shoulders with my head down, like an old man. There are also times when I find it difficult to even get out of bed or a chair, as it’s also affecting my legs. After the treatment, I noticed that my posture was almost back to normal, although I still had some pain. I’m to go back on Thursday for another session. Human back

Says 67 – Pain in the neck

July 19 Thursday – I awoke yesterday with a stiff and sore neck and I still have it this morning. I blamed it on the way I slept, but I just can’t seem to work it out, even with a massage vibrator. I think I’ll have to go see my Chiropractor to get him to do a little adjustment. It’s mostly on the left side of my neck and shoulder.

July 20 I saw the Chiropractor and he gave my neck and back a few adjustments. He asked me if had been doing any heaving lifting recently and at first I said no, but then when I thought about it, I said yes. I have another appointment next week.
